In modern China, the country is divided into the Han people and 55 ethnic minorities, but in reality there are more than 500 ethnic groups. Photographer Kenichi Komatsu has been photographing the lives and cultures of these ethnic minorities for 27 years since the winter of 1991, going deep into China. This book contains a selection of his most representative works from his 300,000 shots, complete with detailed handwritten commentary. This is the culmination of his life's work, which has been to photograph ethnic groups living in harmony with nature in harsh climates.
