Helmar Lerski was born in Strasbourg in 1871 as the son of a Polish immigrant. He moved to the United States in 1893, initially acting as an actor, but later becoming a photographer. He settled in the German film industry, but made a comeback in 1928 as a portrait photographer. By the way, he worked as a cameraman for the special effects of many films, including Fritz Lang's "Metropolis." This book is a collection of portraits of the portrait series he made in 1936 with 175 photographs of a man's face in extreme close-up. This is the first time this book has been printed. His portrait with a mirror in the open has earned an avant-garde reputation.
