"Sibylle" is a women's magazine that was first published in the former East Germany (DDR) in 1956 and was discontinued in 1995 after the reunification of East and West Germany. The background to the launch of the magazine was the aftermath of the civil riots of 1953, in which the highly entertaining magazines "Wochenpost", "Eulenspiegel", and "Das Magazine" were born one after another. In the 1958 issue, one of the founders, costume designer and painter Sibylle Gerstner (1920-2016) was demoted from editor-in-chief to deputy editor-in-chief, and Margot Fanstiel replaced him. Pfannstiel 1926-1993) became editor-in-chief and this is the second issue. With her appointment as editor-in-chief, the culture and fashion pages were revamped, breaking away from the ideal image of women in the 1950s, which was "rich" and "ladylike", and after the war. For the first time in DDR, a creative young generation who received a socialist elite education from an early age joined the editorial, leading to the 1960s, when it reached its peak as a medium for transmitting messages about the state of fashion and culture. From the pages of the magazine, one can sense the direction of the East German media, which is undergoing trial and error under strict systems and restrictions such as shortages of supplies and permission to publish.
