A collection of photographs taken by Kazuma Ogawa (1860-1929), a photographer who was active in Japan in the early days of photography. Collotype photographic techniques are used to print colored photographs that record the customs and manners of Japan at the end of the 19th century (probably the 1890s). Introducing bowing, the lifestyle of geisha, and routines performed in daily life, which are unique to Japan, with photographs and sentences. Since the text is in English by Suteta Takashima (later an American literary scholar) who was a professor at a high commercial school at that time, it seems to be positioned as an interpersonal instruction book for foreigners.
