A photo book that summarizes the early photographs "Circus" of Akira Tanno (1925-2015), one of the members of the photographer group VIVO. The front and back stages of the circus, which are rarely seen today, are projected. Unfortunately, Tanno himself was involved in the production of this book, but he died without seeing the completion, and it was the last photo book that was very regrettable.
This book is a compilation of the early series "Showa Kyomadan (commonly known as the Circus)", which was shot intensively in a short period from 1956 to 1957. The circus is one of the few early motifs that Tanno himself chose (unlike the stage photography that he began to take at the request), which was presented at the 1957 "10 Eyes" exhibition. It is a very valuable work group as it is expected to make a leap in Tanno after that. One day, 11 years after the end of the war, Tanno, who saw the circus and was struck by nostalgia, went to the circus hut and said, "I have to take this!" I put it in the camera so as to trace the memory of. The image reflects the era of the period from the postwar chaos to the period of high economic miracle in a different way from the realism photography movement, and is subjective (or later) led by VIVO members. As one of the germs of (private) photographic expression, it will give a fresh perspective on postwar photography in Japan.
