Photographer Daido Moriyama, designer Satoshi Machiguchi, and editor/curator Hisako Motoo are collaborating to present a new perspective on Daido Moriyama's photo book label, the 5th edition of MMM. This time, we will focus on the literary works of Japanese novelist Osamu Dazai (1909-1948), which were derived from a three-person meeting. Among them, ``VILLON'S WIFE'' was featured. Moriyama's photographs, which unfold as if in response to the world of the novel, exude freshness through the hands of master book designer Satoru Machiguchi. The same high-quality printing technology is used, the edges are roughened with fiber rougher processing, and the cover features a photo of Moriyama's woman with fancy thin white paper and blank stamping (pressing without using foil) on top. The full English translation of ``Villon's Wife'' was written by Ralph McCarthy, a famous translator who has translated ``Run, Melos,'' Ryu Murakami, Teru Miyamoto, and others. I hope you will read this new story where photography and literature intersect. By the way, as a side note, what is printed on the pitch black paper on the last page is Dazai's grave and the figure of Moriyama standing in front of the grave. The spin in this book uses the same spin color as the Shincho Bunko version of ``Villon's Wife.'' Signed.
What is ¡ÈMMM¡É label?
Named after the initial "M" shared by photographer Daido Moriyama, independent curators Hisako Motoo, and Satoru Machiguchi, this collection of works emits the strong and unparalleled aura of Mr. Moriyama, who has always secured a top position in the world. A label that attempts to open up a new world view with ``auto-portrait,'' ``Sunflower,'' ``white and vinegar,'' ``MIRAGE,'' and ``DAZAI'' as its core.
