This is a collection of works by photographer Iwata Nakayama (1895-1949), who was exposed to the cutting-edge trends of modernism in New York and Paris in the 1920s, and played a central role in modern Japanese photography after returning to Japan and based in Ashiya, Hyogo Prefecture. The collection includes over 700 works, including unpublished works and valuable materials, ranging from his early works from the 1910s to those from his time in New York and Paris, as well as photomontages, portraits, Kobe landscapes, and advertising photographs from the late 1920s. After going through a number of factors, including the rescue of materials from Iwata Nakayama's photography studio, which was completely destroyed in the Great Hanshin-Awaji earthquake, and the organization of the materials by volunteers, this book, which has been a long-held dream, has finally been published.
