One of the most important contemporary photographers, Stephen Shore is an influential figure who rose to fame in the 1970s for his raw, unvarnished images of the mundane aspects of American popular culture. At the same time, Shore has also worked across many forms of photography, switching from cheap automatic cameras to large-format cameras in the 1970s and pioneering the use of color before returning to black and white in the 1990s and embracing digital photography, digital printing, and social media in the 2000s. Published to coincide with Shore's major exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 2017, this book covers the photographer's work over the past 50 years, from his gelatin silver prints as a teenager to his current engagement with digital platforms, in a constant exploration of image production.
