A collection of photographs of Katsura Imperial Villa, a villa for the imperial family built in Kyoto in the 17th century. The photographs were taken by Yasuhiro Ishimoto (1921-2012), and the text was written by the architect Kenzo Tange (1913-2005). This famous Japanese garden, which boasts the highest degree of perfection that everyone acclaims, is depicted in black and white with a beautiful composition typical of Ishimoto on his way back from the New Bauhaus. Perhaps it is precisely because of the colorless world of photography that Japanese formative beauty comes to be seen with particular emphasis. By the way, this book is a revised version of the same title published by Zoukeisha in 1960, but when this project was launched, Ishimoto considered whether or not to take new or additional shots, but as a result it was unnecessary. I decided. However, the layout was completely revised by Yusaku Kamekura, and the design of the book is different from that of the first edition.
