The art of photography, which was invented in France, was introduced to Japan in the 1850s and entered the lives of people from the end of the Edo period to the early Meiji period. A number of photographs that clearly record how the spiritual and material changes from Edo to the Meiji era have been recorded. In the first part, the theme is Tokyo, and in the second part, we set up a photo studio in Ueno and Ikenohata, and trace the achievements of photographer Matsusaburo Yokoyama, who was active for about 15 years from the first year of the Meiji era.
