This photo book was produced to coincide with the exhibition of Eugene Smith (1918-1978), a master of photojournalism in the United States, which began in Philadelphia in 1985 and toured nine cities in the United States and Canada. It covers his life as a photographer, including his work during and after World War II in the United States, his work overseas, his later years, and his project with Hitachi in Japan. The Japanese title is translated as "Truth is my friend," but according to the photographer himself, it means something a little different: "Every human being has preconceptions. Let's make those preconceptions as close to the truth as possible. Let's act as impartially and fairly as possible to move toward the truth."
