The "ariphoto" series, which can be said to be the life work that photographer Shinya Arimoto has announced for many years. It has been published regularly as a photo book, but the compilation was finally completed in 2016. With a 6X6 format camera, we are looking at the city dwellers living in the violently circulating city of Tokyo from the front. Momentum approaching August Sander's "Menschen des 20. Jahrhunderts (People of the 20th Century)". The cover is published in two types, a silver version for women and a black version for men. The contents are the same for both. Autograph book.
Twenty years have passed since I moved to Tokyo, but the appearance of this city, which continues to change and expands every day, is still fascinating and looks fresh without getting tired of it. However, on the other hand, as a result of the increase in urban functions, it has become difficult to see the physicality of human beings as living things. Once upon a time, I slept and ate with Tibetan nomads who lived in harmony with the earth and photographed their portraits. Compared to them, the appearance of people who enjoy the convenience of the city feels a little unsatisfactory as a subject. But is that really the case? If you look closely at the city of Tokyo, you can see people living in harmony with the city. The days of pursuing the human figure as a living creature in the city have begun in order to face the questions that have sprung up. Ten years have passed since then, and now, in my eyes, Tokyo is an ecosystem with a magnificent cycle. (From the text)
