Tetsumi Kudo (1935-1990) was born in Osaka, lived in Aomori, his father's hometown, and spent his childhood in high school in his mother's hometown of Okayama after his father, Masayoshi Kudo, passed away early in 1945. While attending Tokyo University of the Arts, he exhibited at the Yomiuri Independent Exhibition, which was the stronghold of avant-garde art after the war, and became a representative of the "anti-art" generation along with Ushio Shinohara and Shusaku Arakawa (1936-2010), but in 1962. After receiving the grand prize at the International Youth Artist Exhibition, he went to France. After that, for about 20 years, based in Paris, he developed his own world that combines the critical perspective of civilization and scientific thinking, with Europe as the place of activity. He frequently returned to Japan in the 1980s, giving lectures, symposiums, and performances, while presenting a series of "Emperor System Structure" and "Shikishi", developing works that reexamine the social structure of Japan from the ground up. In 1987, he became a professor at his alma mater, Tokyo University of the Arts, but died in 1990 at the young age of 55.
